ऋग्वेद: सूक्तं १

मधुच्छन्दाः वैश्वामित्रः ऋषिः । गायत्रीच्छन्द्रः । अग्निर्देवता ॥

ऋग्वेद: सूक्तं १.१

ॐ अग्निमीळे पुरोहितं यज्ञस्य देवमृत्विजम् । होतारं रत्नधातमम् ॥१॥

I laud Agni, the chosen Priest and God reverently,

Minister of sacrifice and the lavisher of wealth be.

1.1.1

अग्निः पूर्वेभिरृषिभिरीड्यो नूतनैरुत । स देवाँ एह वक्षति ॥२॥

Agni praised by living and ancient seers worthy,

He but brings hitherwards the Gods undoubtedly.

1.1.2

अग्निना रयिमश्नवत् पोषमेव दिवेदिवे । यशसं वीरवत्तमम् ॥३॥

Through Agni, man obtains affluence increasingly,

Which is the source of fame, rich in heroes - glory!.

1.1.3

अग्ने यं यज्ञमध्वरं विश्वतः परिभूरसि । स इद्देवेषु गच्छति ॥४॥

Agni, the perfect sacrifice which you clearly do see,

Encompass one and all verily, goes to Gods truly.

1.1.4

अग्निर्होता कविक्रतुः सत्यश्चित्रश्रवस्तमः । देवो देवेभिरा गमत् ॥५॥

Agni, presenter of oblations, knowledge attainer truly,

The Divine – Do come here with the Gods quickly.

1.1.5

यदङ्ग दाशुषे त्वमग्ने भद्रं करिष्यसि । तवेत् तत् सत्यमङ्गिरः ॥६॥

What blessing you grant your worshipper, Agni!

That Angiras - indeed your truth actually does be.

1.1.6

उप त्वाग्ने दिवेदिवे दोषावस्तर्धिया वयम् । नमो भरन्त एमसि ॥७॥

To you, dispeller of night, day by day, O Agni,

We approach you with reverential homage daily.

1.1.7

राजन्तमध्वराणां गोपामृतस्य दीदिविम् । वर्धमानं स्वे दमे ॥८॥

Protector of sacrifice, illuminator of truth, eternal you be,

Radiant, increasing in your own abode certainly.

1.1.8

स नः पितेव सूनवेऽग्ने सूपायनो भव । सचस्वा नः स्वस्तये ॥९॥

Be easy of approach, as a father to his son does be:

For our weal Agni, I pray for you - with us do ever be.
